I am allll about the comfort food – Salisbury Steaks with Gravy?! Yes please.
Please tell me I am not the only one who grew up having Salisbury Steaks – solely from T.V Dinners?! Of course I loved them when I didn’t buy my own food but now I am not too interested in keeping my tiny freezer full of a wide variety of foods from Marie Callenders. I can’t believe how simple they are to make and how much more delicious they can be with some real gravy and mashed potatoes made with love! Enjoy this recipe for Salisbury Steaks with homemade Gravy from my kitchen – We love it in the colder weather but it always makes a great family dish on Sunday’s too! 🙂
Easy Salisbury Steak with Gravy
Enjoy this simple recipe for family style Salisbury Steak with the perfect pairing gravy! Super customizable and great comfort food for the fall weather!
Thoroughly mix all needed ingredients (except for the flour!) for the steaks into a medium mixing bowl. You can add more breadcrumbs as needed to make the mixture easier to handle - in the end you are looking for a consistency you can easily shape.
From into small even patties and dust them in flour on a separate plate and set aside to prepare to cook.
Add butter to a large frying pan, set to medium high. Add steaks as butter melts and bubbles.
Cook until slightly crisped and brown, then flip patties and continue on second side. Pull from heat when they are just about done on both sides - they will finish cooking through inside your gravy.
Salisbury Steak Gravy From Scratch!
In a small sauce pan, begin bringing 2 cups of water to a boil - adding stock concentrates when water is boiling. then remove from heat and let sit. You will be adding this stock-water to your frying pan soon.
After all steaks have been pulled from frying pan, remove pan from heat, discard ground beef fat, and return to burner on medium low. Add 2 tbsp and allow to melt.
When butter has fully melted, sprinkle 2 tbsp flour into butter mixture and stir into a pasty consistency. Continue stirring this butter-flour paste around occasionally while it heats through and cooks (no longer than 5 mins - do not let burn - continue stirring to thoroughly cook)
After paste has slightly browned and begins to slightly rising when left untouched in the hot frying pan, slowly add stock-water while consistently stirring with butter-flour paste. As you add more stock and stir, the gravy will begin to form and you can add as much stock water as you need as it continues to thicken until your desired consistency for gravies.
Return cooked Salisbury steaks to the frying pan with gravy to continue cooking - about 10 minutes in the gravy should be fine!
